Podcasting and Audio Recording
Podcasting is the act of recording audio using an application or programme and uploading said recording to a website for anyone to download and listen to. It allows users to share experiences, opinions and information over the internet in an audible medium, which some may find more engaging to listen to than simply reading text. These often take the format of a radio show that can be downloaded and listened to at one's pleasure. The content of podcasts is entirely up to the producer, with commentary focusing around any topic the broadcaster is wanting to put out into cyberspace.

The process of creating a podcast involves recording the audio as well as planning what is wanting to be discussed during the broadcast. This requires children to apply their literacy skills into communicating by developing speaking, listening, debating and planning skills for each podcast. Furthermore, children's social skills benefit by the act of discourse with their fellow broadcasters, and often with specific roles being assigned, podcasts can strengthen team-working and communication skills. This is assured by children working with one another to perform specific tasks.
Podcasts can be created using free audio recording equipment as well as premium software. iPads feature native sound recording apps as well as featuring a plethora of other options to record podcasts. A popular desktop option is the freeware 'audacity' that allows complex alteration and editing, insertion of additional sounds and the like. Furthermore, the online option, Audioboo allows uploading and alteration of clips online from most devices, supporting many different audio formats whilst being intiuitive enough for children access and use the site's features.
